Fire Extinguisher six-year tear downs:
Every six years, stored pressure fire extinguishers that require a 12-year hydrostatic test (e.g. dry chemical extinguishers) must be emptied and proper maintenance procedures performed The exception to this rule is non-rechargeable extinguishers, which are required to be removed from service 12 years from the date of manufacture. Again, this maintenance must be performed by an approved extinguisher servicing company. Depending on what type of portable fire extinguisher you have, a 12 year or 5-year hydrostatic test shall be performed (per fire code). Community Fire & Safety is a Retesting Facility, offering FAST turn around options!

All work performed per local Fire Authority and NFPA 10 Standards.

The Hydrostatic Test
The procedure for the hydrostatic test for the fire extinguisher:
• First, the fire extinguisher cylinder is inspected internally and externally.
• Second, the fire extinguisher cylinder is filled with water.
• Third, a pressure test is performed on the fire extinguisher cylinder to ensure that it does not leak or rupture.
